Ghost of David is an album by the singer-songwriter Damien Jurado, released in on Sub Pop records. The David of the title is Jurado's friend and former bandmate in Coolidge, David Bazan, who is most famously Pedro the Lion's frontman. In tone, Ghost of David is bleak, spare, and depressing. Most of its thirteen songs concern or tell tragic stories of deception and death.

The fifth track “Tonight, I Will Retire”, a song completely driven by light percussion and a repeating piano melody, is an almost hopeful suicide song (it’s not too depressing if you go to heaven right?), but the song ends with Jurado’s fragile voice crooning ‘if I should taste fire, save me not, I deserve to die’.

"Rehersals for Departure" was merely a great album "Ghost" is Jurado's masterpiece it is sparer, stripped down to the bare bones. The songs are elliptical. They sound like they are years old. "Ghost in the snow" is spellbinding. "Tonight, I will retire" is the best thing he's ever written. The sound quality is remarkable.4/5(16).

Sep 19,  · The first eight words Seattle folkie Damien Jurado sings on his third LP proper, Ghost of David, masterfully sum up the record in both tone and subject: "It just so happens I have many concerns.
  9. Teshura says:
Another strong collection of urban folk songs from Damien Jurado, Ghost of David builds on the gentle, friendly loneliness of Rehearsals for Departure and deepens it with a spiritual, often otherworldly feel. With the notable exception of "Paxil"'s bedroom-crafted rock, the album casts a reflective, melancholy spell, especially on "Great Today," "Tonight I Will Retire," "Walk With Me," and "Ghost in the Snow."8/
